New CIS Board Member Appointed

The Cattle Information Service is delighted to announce the appointment of Tracey Roan CIS Independent Board Member.

Tracey works part-time as the Dairy Policy Manager with the National Farmers Union Scotland and

manages the Scottish Dairy Hub.  She also farms with her husband Steven, and their two children, just outside Dalbeattie.  The family milks 240 pedigree Holstein cows, prefix Colvend, on their 205ha (500+ acres) farm where their focus is on producing quality milk from their grazing herd.  Tracey's main role on the farm is calf rearing, a job that fits around her part-time role and the children.

Before joining NFU Scotland, Tracey worked as a Regional Support Officer for Scottish Land and Estates. She also spent 10 years as a Housing Officer for a local housing association before returning to the farm full-time in 2015 to manage the PR side of the business when the family diversified into selling their milk directly. During this time, she was appointed to the Board of the South of Scotland Enterprise Partnership, representing the agriculture sector, and completed the Scottish Enterprise Rural Leadership Programme.

In 2021, Tracey was part of the farmer-led Dairy Sector Climate Change Group, which was established to develop advice and proposals to the Scottish Government on how to cut emissions and tackle climate change in the dairy sector.

Tracey appeared alongside her family on the BBC’s This Farming Life, leading to various public speaking opportunities at events throughout Scotland.  She is a past winner of NFU Scotland’s Ambassador award, which she collected at NFU Scotland’s AGM and annual dinner in 2020, which recognised Tracey’s work in the dairy sector.

Tracey is passionate about promoting the health benefits of drinking milk and tries to practice what she preaches. She has taken up strength training and competes in strong women's competitions further raising the awareness of the benefits and importance of milk in sport.
