CIS Laboratory Achieves Compliance to UKAS Standards

The Cattle Information Service (CIS) accredited laboratory, based at Telford, Shropshire, continues its operational excellence by achieving for 9th consecutive year compliance to UKAS standards.

On the 7th and 8th, of February 2022 the CIS laboratory underwent the annual UKAS ISO17025 surveillance visit.

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the sole national accreditation body for the United Kingdom. UKAS is recognised by the government, to assess against internationally agreed standards, organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services. Accreditation by UKAS demonstrates the competence, impartiality and performance capability of these evaluators. In short, UKAS ‘checks the checkers’. UKAS is a non-profit-distributing private company, limited by guarantee. UKAS is independent of Government.

It is important for the CIS laboratory to have UKAS accreditation as this further endorses the confidence in result reporting to dairy farmers, vets and farm advisors for milk, blood and tissue testing.  The laboratory has been accredited since 2013 and every year after that has achieved compliance.  UKAS underpins the quality of results by ensuring their traceability, comparability, validity and commutability. The accreditation process gives laboratories a platform to continually examine structure, processes and services with a view to continual improvement.

Dena Snidall, Head of Laboratory Operations for CIS, said, “We are delighted that the recommendation from the auditor is that accreditation is maintained for ISO17025 which we have held since 2013. This is a true reflection of the hard work and dedication from all CIS employees to ensure continuous improvement and high-quality service to its customers”.
