EU Funding for Welsh Dairy Farmers up to £750

It has been announced that EU funding is being made available to Welsh dairy farmers to help with the introduction of farm management tools such as milk recording.

The milk recording scheme is voluntary but limited to one payment per Customer Reference Number (CRN). Depending on the number of applications received the payment will be at least £750 to farmers who have, or take out, a milk recording contract. To qualify you must have an existing or new milk recording contract that meets the following condition:

  • individual cow milk recording samples being carried out a minimum of four times per year (these can be DIY or assisted).

With any business, the saying is ‘you can’t manage what you don’t measure’, this being very true with herd performance.  Milk recording provides important information on each cow within the herd, providing data that identifies whether the animal is making a positive or negative difference to business performance.

CIS (The Cattle Information Service) is a milk recording supplier in Wales, processing milk from all dairy breeds, we offer a number of packages from a simple DIY system to a full milk recorder service available monthly, 6 weekly, 8 weekly or quarterly.  All samples are processed in our ICAR and UKAS accredited laboratory to ISO 17025 with results available online or posted first class.Standard milk analysis tests all individual cows for urea levels as well as butterfat, protein and SCC.  Additional tests such as pregnancy testing, Johnes and BVD can be added, providing the farm team with comprehensive data to make informed decisions when planning breeding, feeding and animal health.
